The Maker Shop is hosting a Pinewood Derby workshop at Astoria Woodworkers Collective!
If you’re unfamiliar, you start with a block of wood, build your own gravity-powered race car, then send it down a 32-foot track to see what happens.
Join us for an afternoon of designing, building, fine-tuning, painting, and racing your own custom Pinewood Derby car. We'll provide the materials, tools, guided instruction, and some friendly competition. You’ll leave with a finished car, great memories, and a chance at glory.
No Pinewood Derby experience? No woodworking experience? No problem.
Participants will receive guided instruction using tools including the band saw, scroll saw, chisel, rotary tool (Dremel), belt sander, and more to transform a block of pine into a one-of-a-kind racer.
COME WITH A FRIEND — OR MAKE SOME HERE
The Pinewood Derby is meant to be social. Sign up with a friend, partner, coworker, sibling, or someone you really want to beat — or come solo and meet your fellow racers at the shop. We'll spend the afternoon building alongside one another, swapping ideas, talking a little trash, and eventually settling things on the track.
